FAQs – Questions about RAL COLORCATCH NANO

RAL COLORCATCH NANO – Simple. Mobile. Precise.

RAL COLORCATCH NANO is RAL COLOURS’ own colorimeter. It measures colours on many surfaces at the push of a button. NANO is 51mm tall, 51mm wide and weighs 60 gram (factsheet pdf). It is compatible with many different apple and android products.

What information does NANO provide?

NANO shows RAGB, L*a*b* and CMYK values as well as light reflectance values (LRV) of many selected colour fan decks. In addition, it matches the previously measured colour shade to a colour shade from a pre-selected colour collection. For a new device, these collections are RAL CLASSIC, RAL DESIGN SYSTEM plus and RAL EFFECT.

Which surfaces can be measured using NANO?

RAL COLORCATCH NANO can measure many different surfaces, regardless of material and condition. This includes textiles, plaster and natural materials, but also flexible materials such as leather and carpets.

Powder and liquids can harm NANO’s surface and harm it and should therefore not be brought into contact with the device. By exercising caution and using a protective plate of 0.3 mm, it is possible to measure powders and liquids due to the device’s depth of focus.

The little opening in the middle of the device allows for the measurement of curved surfaces, as long as the center part is not more elevated than +/- 1 mm. Light entering from the sight should be avoided.

Can NANO be shipped internationally?

Yes. Processing and shipping are handled by RAL COLOURS directly or by one of our distribution partners in your area.

How long does shipping take?

This is subject to the destination. Normally, the product is mailed by RAL COLOURS  on the work day after the order was placed. Should the order be forwarded to one of our distribution partners, this might delay the shipment by a day.

Unlike many other devices, NANO does not measure a colour by taking a photo of it. It takes a video. This allows for measuring up to five colours simultaneously. Due to the high precision and amount of data of up to 50,000 pixels, a transmittal via Bluetooth is not possible.

Starting up your RAL COLORCATCH NANO

How do I start NANO?

Connect NANO to the cord matching your smartphone or tablet. Connect the cord to the NANO first, then to your device. Start the app RAL iCOLOURS and go to the menu ‘Nano’. Now you can start the NANO by pressing the button for a couple of seconds. Afterwards, please follow the instructions in the app.

Measuring colour with RAL COLORCATCH NANO

How do I measure a colour?

Place the NANO on the surface you would like to measure. Now press the button, thereby starting the measurement process. By pressing the button again, the measured colours will be displayed on the left next to the colour field.

RAL COLORCATCH NANO does not take a photo, but films the surface and captures up to five colours simultaneously. The app RAL iCOLOUS shows the filmed colour(s), finds the next RAL colour(s) and shows the technical specifications of the colour(s).

How many colours can NANO store?

NANO itself does not store data, but the app does. Depending on the capacity of your phone, you can save up to several hundred projects. This means you can not only store the measured colour, but also additional colours associated with this project.

How do I find the right colour pallet?

In the basic version, all RAL COLOURS colour collections are included. In addition, it is possible to add many manufacturer collections with in-app purchases.

Can I add my own colour collection to the NANO pallet?

For companies wanting to add their own colour collection to the NANO, there is a possibility of measuring the colours and adding them to the app. Please contact us for more information.
