The IIT Institute International Trendscouting was founded in 2004 at the Faculty of Design at the HAWK University of Applied Sciences and Arts Hildesheim, Holzminden, Göttingen in Germany. It specialises in project development and colour design, with a focus on future and trend research. Its research projects and questions revolve around colour and surface in the context of architecture and product design.

The IIT is a network of experts who aim to identify design-relevant developments and trends, and develop observation models and methods for design research. It produces forecasts, scenarios and industry-specific trend reports on a scientific basis, such as the RAL COLOUR FEELING since 2019.
