The eleventh edition of the high-quality publication series "The Major German Brands", published by the German Design Council, was presented on 12 October 2023 at the festive Design Gala at Soho House Berlin. Guest contributions from high-profile personalities such as Annalena Baerbock, Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Dr Robert Habeck, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, support this year's edition with the title "connect. collaborate. continue."

"We are all facing the same major transformation tasks, but every company has its own history and background. Solutions can therefore never be identical for everyone. What counts, however, is that we ask the same questions, learn from each other and network our knowledge," emphasises Lutz Dietzold, Managing Director of the German Design Council. "Collaborative work can break down the increasing complexity and ambiguity of problem areas. Design is a key factor for SMEs to successfully implement innovation processes and secure the value of a strong brand in the long term."

This year's theme of the publication series "connect. collaborate. continue." therefore focuses on the relevance of knowledge-networked and collaborative approaches for the transformation of our economy: companies that openly approach the key transformation fields of sustainability - in particular the development towards a cicular economy - and digitalisation will open up great potential for consistent brand success.


The German Design Council has been presenting outstanding brand companies in its series "The Major German Brands" since 2013. Under an annually changing theme, companies and their brand success stories are told and presented with large-format colour images. In addition to extensive, journalistically prepared company presentations, the publication contains informative essays and interviews in which different personalities reflect on the importance of brand and design from their own perspectives. "The Major German Brands" reflects the entire spectrum of excellent brand management.

Design Gala

The exclusive guest list comprised around 100 selected representatives of the companies portrayed as well as leading personalities from business and design. The event at Soho House in Berlin offered attendees a forum for dialogue and networking. The German Design Council also presented the finalists of the German Design Award Newcomer 2024, who will be announced publicly in the coming weeks. The endowed Newcomer Award has been successfully connecting young designers with industry for years: since its foundation in 1953, the German Design Council has been firmly committed to the task of promoting design talent, binding it to companies and shaping the future in this way.

In 2022, RAL COLOURS was also part of the publication series "The Major Brands in Germany" of the German Design Council. The volume is titled "DESIGN. BRAND. INNOVATION." and thus at the same time represents the three dimensions for the company's success in the future.
