FORWARD

The colour palette of RAL COLOUR FEELING 2027+ embodies both permanence and transition. It envisions a world that acts proactively, communicates with legibility and comprehension, responds empathetically and designs with both effectiveness and foresight.

Hands-on Colour design
Testing colours virtually is different to experiencing them. Some of the team therefore tested the fifteen colour shades extensively in the studio. The result was a variety of colour relationships and exciting colour-form combinations, as well as the realisation that the colours are suitable for a wide range of applications. These include soft colour-space scenarios and colour-form combinations that are fun, calming or stimulate discussion.

Accent tones such as Marzipan Pink, Topaz Yellow, Kiwi Sorbet Green and Spicy Red create a contemporary and dynamic impression, rooted in the high-contrast and atmospheric sensibilities of current spatial and product concepts. Pale Sienna, along with the consistently selected colours Pepper White and Light Teal, symbolises endurance, material authenticity, gentleness and lightness. The palette gains substance through confident, empathetically activating foundation tones such as Pinkish Brown, Corundum Blue, Spanish Green and Olivine Grey. These are frequently used as large-scale wall or ceiling colours. One of the most compelling aspects of this palette is its inherent capacity for creating meaningful contrasts.

COLOURS

ENVISION + CRAFT

We are currently experiencing a period of transformation, with new design territories emerging whilst simultaneously witnessing a resurgence of importance placed on security, regionality and cultural rootedness. These apparent contradictions present not a conflict, but rather an opportunity for a new synthesis—one that honours enduring and future human values whilst preserving self-determined creative possibilities.

„Envision“ describes our ability to develop future visions that serve as a compass for today‘s design decisions. „Craft“ signifies the meticulous materialisation of this vision through considered design refinement—encompassing persistent shaping, refining and adjustment until the concept attains its desired form.

The palette offers concrete market advantages to the industry and trade sectors: the continuity of selected colours enables efficient transitions between collections and reduces production changeover costs. The new accent colours differentiate products in a competitive environment and appeal to design-conscious buyers. By systematically coordinating colour tones, manufacturers can develop consistent product families, exploit cross-selling opportunities, and expand their ranges more effectively. International validation of colour trends ensures marketability across different regions. Predefined harmonisation, in particular, facilitates the development of compatible collections and significantly shortens time-to-market processes for furniture, textile and product manufacturers.

Contemporary design is multifunctional and lasting

The colour palette has been carefully curated to reflect the concept of continuity. Five colours from the previous year continue in the 2027+ palette, whilst ten additional colours refresh and expand the selection. This approach conserves resources, simplifies combinability and promotes longevity in design applications.

Every shade within the matrix combines seamlessly with all others. The colours are curated and arranged to generate endless compelling combinations – from dynamic contrasts to subtle tonal progressions. These versatile relationships enable design solutions precisely calibrated to specific contexts, brand identities or audience segments. Products gain distinction and differentiation, while spatial sequences can be fine-tuned both visually and atmospherically.

RAL COLOUR FEELING 2027+ is a professional design tool for effective design

RAL COLOUR FEELING 2027+ serves as a highly effective tool for the colour design of products, collections and spaces. The palette, curated by our team using empirical methods, enables design departments and architects to make well-founded colour decisions with confidence. In many instances, a single accent tone suffices to transform and expand existing concepts.

Context-based Design

We show you colour combinations that are suitable for specific functions in context-based design. Context-based design is important because it enables situations that are legible to customers or users, residents or professionals, in the sense that they reflect the situation that seemed appropriate for an activity, an experience or a behaviour. Calm colours are suitable for working environments, whereas vibrant colours in urban spaces highlight a meeting place in the park and encourage communication.

ENVISION + CRAFT Background

The RAL COLOUR FEELING series is intentionally less time-related than publications with a pure focus on short-term trend colours. Our aim is not to define inflexible colours but rather to develop an up-to-date to future-proof colour profile, which creates design possibilities rather than reducing them.

The Trendmemo shows which mega-, macro- and microtrends we have taken into account when making our decisions to select the 15 colours for ENVISION + CRAFT. We use several methods to forecast trends so that we can offer relevant colour suggestions with long-term value.

The colours selected for the trend report are based on observing and assessing social, technological, economic and design trends over the last 60 years. The colour spectrum which has been developed also refers to fundamental design categories and detailed studies on the effect and perception of colour.

RAL stands for quality

RAL has stood for quality and environmentally aware design for decades. This approach is demonstrated from the decision to make the colour trend collections freely available up to the awarding of the Blue Angel environmental quality seal. RAL has been reviewing and guaranteeing that the products and services awarded the Blue Angel satisfy high requirements regarding the environment, health and usage properties since 1978.
